Scents and aromas often act like keys, accessing hidden likes and dislikes. For example the smell of someone’s home can give the guest an impression of their personal taste, how much they value housekeeping, and perhaps even what kinds of activities frequently happen inside. The smell of alcohol upon entering an apartment suggests a multitude of thoughts appealing or not. “Wake up and smell the music” proposes a sound to music synaesthesia as a way of giving users a more complete sense of the artist’s personal style and flair. Different genres of music are mapped to a recognizable smell (for example: pop music might smell like generic bubble gum or country music like fresh cornbread). Such mappings may also suggest parallels – bubble gum is commercially made like much of pop music today. Different albums from the same artist may smell like different forms of the original scent (different albums from Madonna may smell like ketchup, fresh tomato, or salsa etc).
